Bruce H. Bishop
December 22, 1924 - May 7, 2010

Bruce H. Bishop, 85, devoted family man, passed away on Friday night, May 7, 2010, at M.D. Anderson Hospital.  During the past year, he faced cancer with the same kind of determination that helped him to live a full and rewarding life..For Bruce, there was always a goal...always a job to do...and he did them all to the best of his ability.  That's what gave him pleasure.  But no matter how busy he was, he always stopped to smell the roses, to enjoy a good laugh and to help his family.

He was born in Beaumont, Texas to Hessie and Arthur N. Bishop, Sr.  During his youth, he enjoyed being a boy scout and a DeMolay.  As a young man at Beaumont High School, Bruce met Jerry, the woman who would become his loving wife for the next 66 years.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and proudly served his country.  He became an expert mechanic, working on his favorite planes like the B-25.  After the service, he graduated with honors from Lamar Tech and became a professional engineer.  His career led him to Houston where he spent the majority of his life.

But Bruce's story would not be complete without sharing his passion for football.  He attended every Oiler and Texan home game for about 30 years.  He may have spent more hours watching football on TV than any other man in Texas.  He loved the sport.  And we all loved him so very much.  He was the heart of our family.  Our lives will never be the same without him.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Geraldine; his daughters, Julie and Jill; his son Bill and daughter-in-law Denise; his sister-in-law, Nadine Hester; his grandchildren, Allison, Kelly, Sean, Alex, Jennifer and Joe;  his great-grandchild, Zachary; and many other close relatives

A private, graveside service for the family will be held at Magnolia Cemetery on Thursday, May13th at 2p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the youth programs at Lakeview Methodist Conference Center, 400 P.R. 6036, Palestine, Texas  75801.
