SYLVIA L. SMITH

 

Sylvia L. Smith, 92, of Pasadena died August 14, 2004 at her sons’ residence in Pearland.

 

As a young mother, Sylvia moved to Beaumont in 1941.  She served as a volunteer in the American Red Cross Motor Corp during World War II and continued her dedication for several years after the war. She was actively involved with the PTA in the Beaumont Independent School District; a member of the Women’s Club and Garden Club of Beaumont and many other civic and social organizations; along with being a longtime active member of the First Church of God in Beaumont.

 

She is survived by her son, Barney Elton Smith, Jr. and his wife Ruth; daughter-in-law, Arlene Smith; five grandchildren, Brenda Gail Weber and her husband Randy, Barney Elton Smith, III and his wife Valerie, Sheri Lynn Smith, James Alton Smith, Jr. and his wife Paula, and Ronald Wayne Smith; eight great grandchildren, Keith Weber, Kyle Weber, Kristin Rowe and her husband Derrick, Lauren Smith, David Smith, Alanna Smith, Amanda Smith and Jared Smith; along with three great-great-grandchildren, Madison, Maci and Mitchell Rowe.

 

Preceded in death by her husband, Barney Smith, Sr. and son, James Alton Smith.

 

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Broussard’s Chapel, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont with a graveside service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in Tanner Cemetery, Burkeville, Texas.  Visitation will be Monday evening, August 16, 2004 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
