Wava Dee Cherry, 67, of Kountze died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.  She was born June 4, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas to Richard Gerald and Jessie Dee (Blalock) Behnken.  Wava lived most of her life in Kountze and was a charge nurse with Silsbee Oaks Health Care Center.

She is survived her husband of thirty-nine years, J.L. Cherry of Kountze; children, Jennifer Williford and her husband Dwayne of Kountze, Robert Neal Hatchell of Conroe,  Donna Dryden and her husband Don of Lumberton, and Danny Cherry and his wife Angie of Kountze; brothers, Richard Behnken of Canton, Noel Behnken of Beaumont, and Joel Behnken of Houston; sisters, Barbara Overstreet and Lana Behnken both of Kountze; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 9066 FM 1293, Kountze with Reverend Mel Rowell and Reverend Robert Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s in Kountze.  A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, April 30, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the church.
