James Tevis Hayes, 63, born in Beaumont, Texas, September 26, 1946; died Monday, April 5, 2010.
James was a fifth generation Texan who loved his home state and his family above all else. After graduating from Nederland High School in 1964, Jim enlisted in the Navy and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War.
Proud of his Scot/Irish heritage and his military service, James was a loving man with a full heart. A dog lover James always had a dog by his side. He enjoyed fishing, especially at the beach (always followed by “fish stories”) and was a fantastic cook, voracious reader computer tinkerer, bird expert, and nature lover. Jim leaves behind many friends who enjoyed his intelligence, his fun-loving nature, and his strong allegiance to his friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Floy Marie Tevis Hayes and Robert Glenn Hayes. He is survived by four devoted siblings, Cheryl Hayes of Dallas, Texas, Paul Hayes and wife Connie of Burkeville, Texas, Pat Hayes and wife Susie of Carrollton, Texas, and Kathleen Jander of Port Neches, Texas; eight nieces and nephews who adored him; eleven grandnieces and grandnephews; and a large extended family in the Beaumont area and throughout Texas.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s in Nederland. Graveside service with Military Honors will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
Jim has caught some blackbird’s wing and flown away to heaven on this sweet bluebonnet spring. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
