Dolores “Dee” Evans, 79 of Nederland passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Nederland with Reverend Dr. Patrick Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Broussard’s Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday at Broussard’s.
Mrs. Evans was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and has lived most of her life in Nederland. She was a homemaker and involved with many organizations. Known by family and friends as “Dee”, she was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Nederland; past Worthy Matron, Order of the Eastern Star, Groves/Port Arthur, Chapter #953; member of Port Arthur Assembly #160, Social Order of the Beaucheaunt; member of The Red Hat Society/Happy Hatters; member of the Nederland Historical Society; Secretary/Treasurer of Texla Golden Triangle Q.C.W.A, chapter 51 frequency call WA5BEU; Secretary of the Estelle and Allen Fetter’s Center in Groves. She enjoyed early morning swims with other senior swimmers at Doornbos Park with Sara as their mascot and hosting biweekly domino games with her girl friends. She was a former semi professional bowler at Park Place Lanes in Port Arthur and was in the first graduating class of Bishop Byrne and a member of the Collen’s Drum and Bugle Corps.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Wesley Evans, Sr.; daughter, Dolores Ann Merrell; grandson, Jacob Collins; and son-in-law, Freddie Collins. Mrs. Evans is survived by her five daughters, Nancy Jane Luke and husband Shelby of Silsbee, Sara Faye Evans of Nederland, Laura Ruth Evans of Vidor, Barbara Lynn Simon and husband Joey of Port Neches, Susan Kay Collins of Dam Bee; son, Curtis Wesley Evans, Jr. of Nederland; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy Merrell, Lee Ann Merrell, Meeka Thomas, D’Lane Caldwell, Stephanie Garlick, Angela Evans, John Wright, Curtis Wright, Dylan Wright, Robin Simon, Raleigh Simon ,Christopher Collins, Michael Collins, Brandy Collins and fifteen great grandchildren.
