Marion Lindsey Walker 
August 5, 1916 - March 21, 2010

Marion Lindsey Walker, 93, known as Lindsey to his friends, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at The Oaks at Beaumont Nursing Facility.

 

A native of Center, Texas, Lindsey was born August 5, 1916, to Daniel Walker, formerly of Craft, Texas, and later Chief Justice of the 9th Court of Civil Appeals, and May Barnett of Kilgore, Texas. His family moved to Beaumont in 1919 when Judge Walker first went on the Appellate Bench. Lindsey grew up in Beaumont attending Averill, Dick Dowling and Beaumont High School, from which he graduated in 1933. He then attended Lamar Junior College, completing an AA Degree in 1935 and entered the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated in 1939, from the University of Texas Law School with BA, LLB, and JD degrees.

 

Lindsey practiced law in Port Arthur from 1939 to 1942, at which time he entered the United States Army serving as a Special Agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps in the Continental United States, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, the Admiralty Islands, New Guinea, and Australia. As a result of eye problems, he returned to the United States in 1944. Lindsey then served at the United Nations Conference on International Organization, and participated in taking War Crimes Depositions from American Service Men returning from Japanese Prisons.

 

After discharge from the Army on January 5, 1946, he began a Law Practice in Beaumont with M.L. Lefler, Jr. and W.G. Walley, Jr. Lindsey later formed a Partnership with Eugene L. Lefler in 1948, which continued until Mr. Lefler’s death on June 14, 1999. As a lawyer, he specialized in Real Estate matters, Oil and Gas Activities, Corporate and Business Organizations, and Probate.

 

Among other activities, Lindsey served as President of the BPM Club, President of Beaumont Exchange Club, and for many years, Secretary of the Beaumont Boat Club. He was Charter Member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and at his death, was a member of the Kitchen Class of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a past Patron of Wisteria Chapter 823, Order of the Eastern Star, a Master Mason Member of Beaumont Lodge No. 286, Chapter No. 188 R.A.M., Council No. 126 R.&S.M., a 32nd Degree Member of the Scottish Rite and a member of El Mina Shrine. Lindsey was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Republic of Texas.  

Lindsey was married to Patricia Smith Walker with whom he lived for forty-two years. He was then married to Pauline Haussner, with whom he lived happily until his death.

 

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Haussner Walker; children, James A. Walker and William L. Walker; grandchildren, Jake Walker, Sally Walker, Stacy Walker and Sarah Walker; step-daughters, Sherrie Travers of Katy, Texas and Pamela Harvey of Plano, Texas; step-granddaughters, Allison Hamilton, Annilee Reed, Jana Harvey, Amanda Dale and Elisa Reh Lessard; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

 

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Broussard’s.

 

As honorary pallbearers, Lindsey named the members of the Kitchen Class of Wesley United Methodist Church and several of his friends who preceded him in death; Eugene L. Lefler, M.L. Lefler, Jr., Dick Haussner, Dick Brown, Bedford Pace, Henry Maxey, Oscar Eldridge, Doonie Herndon, J. Corder Smith, Bob Nixon, Turner Van Eman, H.P. Robicheaux, and Herbert McCormick.
