Gladys Romere Clegg, 87, of Port Neches, died Monday, February 22, 2010, at Medical Center in Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

She was born March 29, 1922, in Guffy, Texas to Lora Delaune Romere and Joseph Sterling Romere, Sr.  She grew up in Sour Lake where she met and married John Harley Clegg on January 4, 1941. They were married sixty-five years at his death in 2006.  Gladys was a Registered Nurse. She was a school nurse at Forest Park High School and Westbrook High School until her retirement in 1984.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harley, two infant children, Christopher and Carol Ann, and her brother, Sterling Romere, Jr.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Cindy Clegg Nicklebur and her husband John of Port Neches; sons, John Steven Clegg and his wife Theresa of Beaumont and Thomas Harley Clegg and his wife Dana of Wildwood; grandchildren, Lara Nicklebur Lee and her husband Dr. John Lee, Dr. Scott Nicklebur and his wife Kathy, Captain Travis Clegg and his wife Jennifer and Trevor Harley Clegg; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Katy and Jason Lee, Maggie and Max Nicklebur, and Madison and Noah Clegg; sister, Dorothy Romere Kubicek and her husband Joe; brother, Shelby Romere; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Romere; and very special friends, Jeanell and Al Peveto and Mary and Mike Harmon.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  A gathering of her family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Broussard’s.
