Lois Ney Szafir
December 29, 1914 - January 28, 2010

Lois Ney Szafir, 95, of Dallas, died Thursday, January 29, 2010. A native of Beaumont, Lois was born December 29, 1914, to Leo Edwin Ney and Ray Philipson Ney. After graduating from high school in Beaumont and attending Lamar College, Lois served as financial secretary for Temple Emanuel from 1937 until 1941. She was an active member of National Council of Jewish Women, B'Nai Brith, and helped her husband at the Neches Electric Company.

She loved to play poker, canasta and bridge and could also play a mean game of dominos. Lois loved to sing along at the nursing home and knew every lyric.

Lois was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, and equally important, they adored her. She loved when they would come to the nursing home and climb in bed with her. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated eternally by her family and friends.

Her husband of seventy-two years, Norman Szafir preceded her in death six months ago.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Golman and her husband Martin of Dallas; grandchildren, Stacey Baer and her husband Doug, Robin Unterberg and her husband Craig, and Max Golman; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Zoe Baer, and Tatum and Riley Unterberg.

The family will receive condolence calls at 11:30 a.m., January 31, 2010, at The Holiday Inn on Walden Road.

A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Hebrew Rest Cemetery with Rabbi Joshua Taub of Temple Emanuel officiating under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of one’s choice.
