Reverend Melvin Corbon McDaniel, 71, of Vidor, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Reverend McDaniel was born in Sabine Town, Texas on October 30, 1938, to Reverend A.C. and Nellie Hodges McDaniel, and a 1957 graduate of Vidor High School and was instrumental in coordinating their annual class reunion and has preached several of his classmate’s funerals. He was owner and operator of McDaniel’s Gulf and M & M Auto Sales and was retired from Texaco Chemical. He was a longtime member of Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Vidor where he served as assistant to his brother, Pastor H.W. McDaniel. Reverend McDaniel was an active member of the First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee for the last five years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby McDaniel; daughters, Debbie Cox and her husband Reverend Ted of Abbeville, Louisiana, Pam Bullock and her husband Rev John, and Becky Stroud and her husband Sam II, all of Vidor; grandchildren, Ashley Cox of San Diego, California, Bethany Bullock of Vidor, Nathan  Cox of Abbeville, Louisiana, Breanna Stroud, Rebekah Bullock, Hayley Stroud, and Brent Stroud; brothers, Reverend H.W. McDaniel and his wife Betty, Willy McDaniel and his wife Betty; sister, Janice Dixson and her husband David all of Vidor.

Reverend McDaniel is preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Gordon McDaniel; and sister, Margie Williams.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Odyssey Hospice for the loving care Reverend McDaniel received during his illness.

Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 15, 2010, at First Pentecostal Church, 1420 North 5th Street, Silsbee with Reverend Homer Looper and Reverend C. M. Duplissey officiating.  Pallbearers will be Windell McDaniel, Alvin McDaniel, Phil Seigrist, D'Wayne Dixson, Scott Dixson, and Mike Williams.  Honorary pallbearer is Mark McDaniel.  Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor under the direction of Broussard’s in Silsbee.  A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, January 14, 2010, 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the church.
