Roy J. Morrell 
May 15, 1926 - January 1, 2010

Roy J. Morrell, 83, of Beaumont died January 1, 2010, at Christus Hospital St. ElizabethRoy was born May 15, 1926, to Paul and Mariann Tritico Morrell in Port Arthur and resided in Beaumont. Roy graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in pharmacology, and was considered a pioneer developer of Eastex Freeway by establishing one of the first businesses, Rosedale Pharmacy, in 1960.    He owned and operated Rosedale Pharmacy for fifteen years along with his wife, Jean, while managing a grocery store, washateria, leasing business, and cattle and timber agriculture.  In his later years, he was active in oil and timber management. A United  States veteran, he proudly served his country during World War II.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Jean A. Morrell; son, Paul J. Morrell and his wife Brenda of Silsbee; son, Andy Morrell and his wife Cabrina of Sour Lake; daughter, Mariann Morrell of Mississippi; grandchildren, Anthony Morrell, Ashleigh Morrell, Alyse Morrell, Nick Morrell, Caitlin Morrell, and Haley Morrell; and beloved nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Morrell and Mariann Tritico Morrell; son, Roy J. Morrell, Jr., and brother, Frank J. Morrell.

 

His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery.  A Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Broussard’s.
