Mabel Meaux 
March 15, 1927 - January 1, 2010

Catherine Mabel Meaux, 82, of Sour Lake, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at Harbor Hospice after a lengthy illness. A native of Port Neches, Mabel was the third child of Adonia and Arthur “Jack” Meaux. As a child, she lived in Crowley, Louisiana before hitch hiking with her parents and siblings back to Texas.

 

Mabel worked many jobs that included playing guitar in a band, delivering the Houston Chronicle in Houston and was employed with the Beaumont Enterprise before retiring after forty years of service. During her employment, she worked inside but after time, preferred her paper route. Mabel delivered newspapers in Sour Lake, Bevil Oaks, Pinewood, China, Nome and other parts of Beaumont.

 

Her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Amy Meaux; and brother-in-law, Tony Caldronia preceded her in death.

 

Mabel is survived by her only sister, Mrs. Tony (Major) Caldronia of Magnolia, Texas, formerly of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Sarah Jane Graham, Barbara Platt Woodard, Judy McClellan and Harbor Hospice. Also, special thanks to her physicians, Ms. Duncan and Dr. Sean Healey.

 

Cremation arrangements are being handled under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
