D.E. “Gene” Mc Broom, 85, of Port Arthur, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at The Rose House in Port Arthur.   A committal service with entombment to follow will be 3 pm, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches with Ryan Busby officiating. Services are under the direction of Broussard’s in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12 pm to 2pm Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the mortuary.   Mr. McBroom was a native of Cleburne and lived in the area since the late twenties. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Groves and Fire Chief for Groves Volunteer Fire Department in the fifties. He retired from Gulf Oil after forty two years of service, was a fifty year member of Groves Masonic Lodge #1315 A.F & A.M. and an Army veteran of WWII.   Mr. McBroom is survived by his son, Ron McBroom and wife Lisa of Little Cypress; daughter, Jane Busby and husband Don of Nederland; grandchildren, Ryan Busby, Megan Anderson and Shalyn McBroom and great-grandson, Conner Woodrow Jackson. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty two years, Norma McBroom.   Memorial contributions in Mr. McBroom’s memory may be directed to Crossroads Fellowship 2005 N.
