Mary Ellen Lee Sherer Prafka
Ellen was born in Louisiana February 7, 1910 and moved to Nederland as a small child. She attended Nederland High School and graduated in 1929. That same year she married Arthur David Sherer and together they had three children, Arnold Sherer and wife Virginia, Patsy Elaine Brumfield and husband Loyd, and Sue Jones and husband Lee. She is also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded by Arthur David Sherer in 1970 and her second husband Earl Prafka and also a grandson David Andrew McGaffey.
Ellen was active in the First United Methodist Church in Nederland serving on the executive board, finance committee, church school superintendent and also as a Sunday school teacher. She served for years on the Mid-Jefferson Hospital Auxiliary in several capacities where she was selected “Lifemark Woman of the Year” in recognition of her service to the hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Nederland. Ellen also taught in earlier years for the Angie Nall School/Hospital where she did Neuron-Therapy for twenty years.
Her interests were traveling, playing bridge, crocheting, knitting as well as visiting with ill friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland with Reverend Malcolm Monroe officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice.

Pallbearers will include, one nephew and five grandsons; Jack Pelloat, Barry Thweatt, Kirk Sherer, Eric Sherer, Craig Sherer, Loyd L. Brumfield, Jr.
