Winford Dempsey “Big Chief” Rowzee 84, of Nederland passed away
Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
A Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 27, 2009 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Port Acres, with Reverend Kitty Key officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at St. John’s Methodist church in Port Acres.
Mr. Dempsey was born in Leesville, La., and has lived in the Nederland area since 1946. He retired from Gulf Oil Refinery after 36 years where he worked as an area man in the storage department. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Port Acres.
Mr. Rowzee who was also known as “Big Chief” served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Medical Corp in the Pacific and was a member of the Nederland Masonic Lodge # 1368.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Blanton Rowzee, and his parents George Neal Rowzee and Sarah Francis Goodwin. He is survived by two sons, Michael Dempsey and wife Penny of Covington, La., and Timothy George “Little Chief” Rowzee of Nederland; his brother Lynn Rowzee and wife Patricia of Pollack, La; four grandchildren, Shad Rowzee and wife Amy, Kelly Karwel and husband Eric, Abigail Rowzee, Brook Rowzee; six great grandchildren Skye, Kyle, Justin, Bryan, Liam, and Charleigh.
