Eugene Shirey Powell, 85 of Nederland passed away, Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.   Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, October 19, 2009 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland with Reverend Dan Malain officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 PM, Sunday at the mortuary.   Mr. Powell was a native of Marble Falls and has lived in Nederland for the past 50 years. He retired from Texaco as a Senior Clerk. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.   Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Smith Powell and sisters, Annie Jo Jones and Bonnie Shirey.    He is survived by daughters, Alicia Fontenot and husband Louis, Shanna Powell both of Nederland; son, Ronald Eugene Powell and wife Grace of Marble Falls, brother Gary Shirey and wife Crystal of Idaho, grandchildren, Ronald David Powell and wife Deanna of Aubrey, Trent Allen McGee, Taylor Jade Ray both of Nederland; Mattie Fontenot and Sadie Fontenot both of Lumberton, great grandchildren Kayla Michelle Powell of Maine, Justin Reece, Jessica Wilke, Cassidy Wilke, Tricia Wilke all of Aubrey. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the Humane Society.
