Charles Everett Radley,Sr. 
March 9, 1927 - October 11, 2009

Charles Everett Radley Sr., 82, of Canyon Lake, TX, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009.

 

Charles was born in Hull, Texas, on March 9, 1927, to Ruth and Ernest Radley of Sour Lake, Texas.

 

Known to friends and family as “Charley”, he grew up in Hull, Beaumont, and finally in Sour Lake, Texas where he played high school football and graduated in 1944. Charles served in the U.S. Army as a Communications Paratrooper Sergeant during World War II and attended Texas A&M for two years, participating on their boxing team for a short time. After completing his military service, he returned to Sour Lake to work for his father in the newly formed family business, Radley Electric. Charlie moved on to work for Houston Light & Power Company as an electrician, later on as a traffic signal repairman and engineering assistant for the City of Houston. After retiring in 1989, he and his wife, Sue moved to Lake Canyon Yacht Club in Canyon Lake, Texas.  There he enjoyed many years of fishing, gardening, club events and friends.

 

Charles is survived by his wife, Sue Harris Radley; son, Charles Everett “Buddy” Radley, Jr. and his wife Felicia; daughter, Cynthia Hickson and her husband Royce; brothers, Robert Rhea Radley and his wife Beverly and Paul Glen Radley and his wife Joyce; grandchildren, Jeri Patterson, Frith Zole, Donnie Radley, Brenda Wade, Robin LeBlanc, Chris Radley, and Evan Radley; great grandchildren, Justin Clinard, Dalcon Clinard, Aleah Clinard, Charlie Radley, Chris Radley, and Michelle Radley; great great granddaughter, Jaycelyn Clinard; sister-in-law, Lois Radley; brother-in-law, A.E. Harris; and  nieces and nephews, Donnie Radley, Joe Radley, Terry Radley, Steven Radley, Karen Rae Nygaard, and Dena Kay Saltzman.

 

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, who died in 1994, his brother, Joe Howard Radley; and niece, Colleen Gatewood.

 

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, 325 W. 7th Street, Sour Lake, with burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake.  A gathering of his family and friends will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont.
