Hal Wayne Shaw, Sr., 63, of Vidor died October 9, 2009, at Harbor Hospice. Hal was born April 10, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas to Hallie Lee and Elizabeth “Beth” Earl Shaw. Hal was a longtime resident of the Golden Triangle. He graduated from South Park High School in 1964 and later began a career with the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department. Hal started as a jailor and eventually advanced through numerous positions. In 1981, Hal was promoted to the position of Major over the Criminal Investigations Division, which he held until his retirement in 1985. After leaving the county, he opened his own business Hal Shaw and Associates private investigation firm.
In 1990, Hal pursued his dream of living in the Rocky Mountains when he moved to Central City, Colorado to open Hal Shaw’s Rocky Mountain Smokehouse. Hal dearly loved the time he spent in the mountains.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Christy Shaw of Vidor; son, Hal Wayne Shaw, Jr. and wife Sandy of Vidor; daughters, Tina Martinez and husband Dave of Beaumont, Melanie Lewis and husband Mike of Vidor, and Amanda Shaw and fiance’ Tom Sowers II of Vidor; grandchildren, Taylor Shaw, Noah Lewis, Blaine Shaw, Nicholas Lewis, Tony Briones, III, Maci Martinez, and David Martinez; his two beloved cats, Braveheart and Pico; aunt, Jo Ann Custer; and numerous friends.
His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Broussard’s, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of his family and friends will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
