Mark Edward Brown, Jr. 
October 7, 1926 - September 6, 2009

Mark Edward Brown, Jr., 82, of Beaumont, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

 

A native and life long resident of Beaumont, he was born October 7, 1926, to Sallie Mae and Mark E. Brown, Sr.  Mr. Brown was an insurance agent.

 

He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946.  Mr. Brown later graduated from Lamar State College of Technology with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1955. He received his Chartered Life Underwriter’s designation in 1970 and was president of several different organizations such as the Rose Society, the Lion’s Club and Life Underwriter’s Association. Mr. Brown was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Brown enjoyed fishing at Rollover Pass, and Galveston Bay. He also loved spending time at his beach house with his family and dogs at Gilchrist Beach.  Mr. Brown coached his son’s little league teams and played third base for the softball team at First Baptist Church. More than anything, he especially loved his rose gardens.

 

 He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brown of Beaumont; his son, Mark Gregory Brown of Beaumont; grandchildren, Hillary Fenton, Mark Joseph Brown, Hannah Brown, and Jillian Brown; and his special nephew, Mark H. Brown.

 

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Sallie Mae and Mark Edward Brown, Sr.; sisters, Jacqueline McDaniel and Maxine Hall; and brothers, Raymond C. Brown and Dwight E. Brown.

 

His funeral service will be 10:00 Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at Broussard’s.
