Raymond Joseph Comeaux

Raymond Joseph Comeaux, 87, of Groves, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at his residence. Born in Port Arthur on August 10, 1922, to Lawrence and Edna Comeaux, Raymond started work at an early age to help his family during the depression. He later married his sweetheart, Isa Mae Budwine before serving in the Army in the European Theater during World War II. Upon returning from the service, he and his brother-in-law, Homer Fontenot, owned and operated Ray’s Texaco Service, located on the corner of 12th Street and Houston Avenue in Port Arthur, for a number of years. Raymond then retired as a boilermaker from Gulf Oil Company. He and Isa Mae enjoyed camping at the 944 Park on Toledo Bend Reservoir and dancing at the local singles clubs. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include his sons, Randy Comeaux and his wife Pat of Port Neches and Michael Wayne Comeaux of Gallup, New Mexico; daughters, Elaine Morrell of Nederland, and Paula Broussard and her husband Jim of Fannett; grandchildren, Tina Morrell, Shawna Hunter and her husband Donnis, Jennifer Barnett and her husband Jon, Ashley Webb and her husband Ryan, Blue Broussard III, and Jayme Broussard; and seven great-grandchildren. A military graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2009, at the mortuary. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Cathy and Raymond Reyes and their family, for the loving care of Mr. Comeaux over the past few years.
