Whitney J. Gaspard, 80, of Sour Lake died Monday, August 3, 2009 at his residence. Whitney was born December 26, 1928 in Crowley, Louisiana to Mayo and Mathila (Roy) Gaspard. A resident of Sour Lake for fifty years, Whitney was a retired carpenter with Bethlehem Steel in Beaumont.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Vergie Gaspard of Sour Lake; his children, Jeffery Gaspard and his wife Wanda of Sour Lake, Shirley Coburn and her husband Danny of Sour Lake, Jerry Gaspard and his wife Darla of Sour Lake, Wilson Gaspard and his wife Vicki of Sour Lake, and Jimmy Gaspard and his wife Janies of Buna; brother, Howard Gaspard of Kaplan, Louisiana; sisters, Elvin Lege and Lovina Schexneider both of Kaplan, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Verline Gaspard.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze with Reverend Earl Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Gaspard’s name to Fannett Gospel Tabernacle 715 Goliad, Vidor, Texas  77662.
