Catherine Rita Powell, 86, of Kountze died Friday, July 31, 2009 at Kountze Nursing Center.  Catherine was born in North Hampton, Massachusetts on November 16, 1922 to Henry Joseph and Hazel (Fournier) Vishaway. A resident of Kountze since 1995, she retired from WalMart in 2004.

She is survived by her children, Paul  Keahey of Kountze, Michael  Bean and his wife Sherry of Colmesneil, Glenn “Stevie” Stephens and his wife Bonnie of Colmesneil, and Sharon Pickard and her husband Keith of Kountze; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Jan Zehelski and Kathy Tefft; and  brothers, Joey Vishaway and Douglas Vishaway.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester A. Powell; brothers, Frederick Vishaway and Robert Vishaway; sisters, Marie Trojanowski and Dorothy Matuszewski; and grandson, Christopher Glenn Stephens.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze with Reverend Robert Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.  A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, August 3, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
