Olive LaPoint, 93, of Orangefield and native of Mermentau, Louisiana died May 29, 2006 at Terrell Health Care. Olive loved to quilt and she will be remembered for not missing a family reunion and her Christmas Gumbo which she cooked the Saturday before Christmas every year.
She is survived by her sons, Alton LaPoint and his wife Pam of Beaumont, Vernis LaPoint and his wife Dorothy of Orangefield, and Lerney LaPoint and his wife Francis of Terrell; son-in-law, Robert Gros of Beaumont; brother, Andrew LeBlanc and his wife Rebecca of Gueydan; sisters, Mae Lois Fontenot and her husband Lawrence of Lake Charles and Lillian Guiterriz of Silsbee; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren. Her husband of thirty-two years, Wilson; daughter, Rose Mae Gros; and grandchildren, Larry, Dwayne, and Ryan LaPoint, preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2006 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church followed by burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard LaPoint, Jerrod LaPoint, Steven LaPoint, Rory Gros, Richard Gros, and John Faraci and honorary pallbearers, Jody LaPoint, Stephen Gross, and Dillon LaPoint. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday evening, June 1, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
