The Honorable Forrest Elmo Stewart 
July 18, 1926 - August 29, 2016

The Honorable Forrest Elmo Stewart, 90, of Rye, Texas, died peacefully in his home, Monday, August 29, 2016. He was born on July 18, 1926, in Beaumont, to Bertha Barnes Stewart and Silas Agusta Stewart, on the street which is now named Florida Street.

Judge Stewart attended Lamar University and graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy with a degree in Engineering in 1946. After he served briefly in the Merchant Marine, he attended the University of California Berkley. Judge went on to graduate with a J.D. in Law from The Bates College of Law at the University of Houston in 1956, and later received a Masters of International Law from New York University in 1965.

Judge served our country and retired as a Captain from the United States Coast Guard and also served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, or J.A.G. He went on to become an Administrative Law Judge for the Federal Government, retiring in 2005 with over fifty years of federal service.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Leona Stewart; her daughter, Siobhan Mary Smith and husband, Larry Wayne Smith; daughter, Julia Stewart Mashburn and husband, Joseph Laing Mashburn; son, Paul Forrest Stewart and wife, Deborah Rupp Stewart; grandchildren, Mars Mashburn and wife, Laurey LuCree; Kelly Stewart McKemy and husband, Justin McKemy; Crystal Rupp, Brittni Rupp, and Honey Victoria Smith; great-grandughter, Evaiah; and good friend and ex-wife of forty-four years, Betty Leventon Stewart.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Claude and Vernon Stewart; and sister, Eunice Ashworth.

A gathering of Mr. Stewart’s family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 pm, Friday, September 2, 2016, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.
