Walter L. “Dub” Straughn, Jr., 93, of Beaumont, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont. He was born on May 29, 1923, in De Funiak Springs, Florida, to Lottie Jackson Straughn and Walter L. Straughn, Sr., and had been a longtime resident of the area. Walter was a United States Marine Corps Captain, where he was an Aviator, having served in World War II.
He worked alongside his father as vice president of the family owned business, Straughn Electronics, Inc. Walter was a Masonic Mason with Grand Lodge of Texas Tolerance #1165, and a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Beaumont.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Dartez Straughn, of Beaumont; daughter, Suzanne Durham, of Houston; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and half-sister, Jane Ann Quevado.
Walter is preceded in death by his son, Walter Lee Straughn III; and sister, Helen Harris.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Bodo Brauer; his office staff and nurses; and all of the office staff and nurses at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A gathering of Mr. Straughn’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his memorial service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Ennichement of Mr. Straughn’s cremated body will follow at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Columbarium, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Straughn’s name to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Friday Morning Ministry, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701 or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 815 Market Street, Galveston, Texas 77550.
