Betty Jo Spivey, 78, of Sour Lake, died Friday, August 19, 2016, at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. She was born on November 29, 1937, to Ruth Stratton Burke and Carl Burke, in Russellville, Kentucky. Betty retired from Brookshire Brothers produce department in Sour Lake.

Survivors include her sons, Ricky Wayne Spivey and his wife, Kathy, of Sour Lake; Darren Keith Spivey and his wife, Diana, of Nome; James Daniel Spivey and his wife, Valerie, of Liberty; and Kenneth Carl Spivey and his wife, Cheryl, of Sour Lake; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister, Blanche Jordan; brother, Dwight Burke; and sister, Debbie Lumpkin.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Wayne Spivey and one grandson, Staff SSgt Tony Winters.

A gathering of Mrs. Spivey’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 5:30 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements will be held through Broussard’s Crematorium.
