Lanorma Ann Gaskin 
March 20, 1939 - August 17, 2016

Lanorma Ann Gaskin, 77, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on March 20, 1939, to Gladys and Alpin Thomas Mitchell, in Bronson. Lanorma was a teacher at Buna Elementary and Roy Guess.

 

She graduated from South Park High School and went on to graduate from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science in 1973 and a Master of Education in 1979. She was an Honorary Life Member of Texas PTA. She served as President of the local chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society International from 1996-1998. She started a neighborhood program called HIS KIDS which taught bible stories and character building lessons for neighborhood kids of Magnolia gardens. She also held bible study lessons out of her home once a week for seven years and mailed out fifty devotionals four times a year to friends and family. In her free time, Lanorma enjoyed painting, gardening, and writing, including birthday prayers and encouragement cards.

 

Survivors include her sons, Barton Gaskin and his wife, Masako, of Beaumont and Malcolm Gaskin and his wife, Ferlie, of Calhoun, Georgia; daughter, Venita Gaskin of Beaumont; grandchildren, Daniel Gaskin and his wife, Anna; Seth Gaskin and his wife, Mary; Samuel Gaskin; and Anna Gaskin; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Elliott, and Elise; and sister, Peggy Lathrop.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Tommy Mitchell and Johnny Mitchell.

 

A gathering of Ms. Gaskin’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Cathedral Church, 2350 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
