Howard A. Young 
May 18, 1923 - August 12, 2016

Howard A. Young, 93, of Beaumont, died Friday, August 12, 2016, at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born on May 18, 1923, in Rosenberg, Texas, to Jewel Vanderhider Young and Pinkney Arthur Young. Howard moved with his family to DeRidder, Louisiana, in 1928 and then to Merryville, Louisiana. Howard graduated from Merryville High School in 1940. He later attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. At Northwestern he met Dorothy Corne, and they were married on July 22, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Howard served in World War II as an Aviation Radar Technician assigned to Carrier Aircraft Service Unit 36, 1944-1946. He served as a First Lieutenant, Detachment 14, Ordnance, Fourth Army Reserve, 1949-1954.

After being discharged from the United States Navy in 1946, he and his wife moved to Beaumont. He was employed by Mobil (Magnolia) Oil Corporation from September of 1946 to July of 1984. Howard retired with his wife to Lake Rayburn. They were active in Rayburn Country community and Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church affairs for nineteen years. They moved back to Beaumont in September of 2003, and became members of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Howard is survived by his brother, Harold Hill Young and his wife, Carolyn, of West Lake, Louisiana; and those who were special in his life, Kelly Brent, Lori Anderson, and Dr. Donna Breen, of Marksville, Louisiana. He is also survived by Susan and Don Breen; nephew, Chester Stark; and many other nieces and nephews.

Howard is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Dorothy Young; parents; and sisters, Alto Wayne Dougharty and Marvale Stark.

He was an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society; a life member of Masonic Bodies: B.F. Quicksall Lodge 1370; Beaumont York Rite Bodies; and the Grand Lodge of Texas. Howard served in many capacities in both the local level and the Grand Lodge level.

A gathering of Mr. Young’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 15, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with Reverend Robert Besser, officiating. His entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
