Elmer Smith, 91, of Kountze, died Sunday, August 7, 2016.  He was born on October 31, 1924, in Port Arthur, to Eloise Griffin Smith and Elmer L. Smith.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for twenty-two years as a meteorologist and later retired as a Grounds and Buildings Maintenance Supervisor for Orange County, Texas after eleven years of service.

Survivors include his wife of seventy-one years, Joyce Smith; children, Tom Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Dallas; David Smith of Beaumont; and Paul Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Kountze; grandchildren, Shane Smith and his wife, Mary Katherine, of Flower Mound; Meagan Allen and her husband, Brandon, of Kountze; Matt Smith of Hawaii; Danny Smith and his wife, Ellis, of Clovis, New Mexico; and Tyler Smith of Kountze; great-grandchild, Andrew Smith of Flower Mound; sister, Juanita Gregory and her husband, Kenneth, of Cedar Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis Smith, Bill Smith, Sammy Smith, and Gerrel Smith; sisters, Mary Jane McCune, Avis Drawhorn, and Ann Goss.

A gathering of Mr. Smith’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
