Ruby May Horn 
November 21, 1908 - March 22, 2005

 

Ruby Beard Horn, 96, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 5:15 p.m. at her home. She was born in Nederland, Texas on November 21, 1908, the second of eight children of Bob and Annie Beard. She graduated from South Park High School in 1926 and, in 1928, obtained an associates degree from South Park Junior College which later became Lamar University. Ruby married Odus Horn in 1931 and together they raised a family of two sons and a daughter. In 1948 they moved to the west Jefferson county area to establish a rice farm and ranch between China and Nome. Ruby was a resident of the China area for 57 years, remaining in the home that they had built until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Odus Horn; her parents, Bob and Annie Beard; and three brothers, John R. Beard, Joe Beard and Martin W. Beard. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Robert and Barbara Horn of Golden, Colorado, Stuart and Susan Horn of China, and her daughter and husband, Kathryn and James Warren of Nome. Also surviving are one brother, Louis H. Beard and his wife Carrie of Beaumont; three sisters, Ruth Schilling and her husband Harvey of Beaumont, Lucile Nichols and her husband Jim of Beaumont, and Betty Sue Knight and her husband Frank of Madisonville, Texas and one sister-in-law, Jeanne Beard of Beaumont. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild. Special thanks go to her angelic caregivers who gave her their love and attention during her last years.

 

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive in Beaumont followed by burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the mortuary.
