Alan "Al" Jay Barnes 
October 20, 1959 - July 3, 2016

Alan “Al” Jay Barnes, 56, of China, died Sunday, July 3, 2016. He was born on October 20, 1959, to Margaret Jean Rice and Larry Robert Barnes, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Al attended Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Illinois, and graduated from Mid Prairie High School in Wellman, Iowa, from the class of 1978.

 

Survivors include his life partner, Lisa Matthews of China; father, Larry Barnes and his wife, Carol, of Geneseo, Illinois; stepfather, Bob Nunn of Beaumont; son, J.C. Reynolds of New Braunfels; daughter, Kylee Matthews; granddaughter, Brynlee Matthews; and brother, Bill Barnes, all of Beaumont; sister, Shari Morotti and her husband, John, of Chandler, Arizona; stepsister, Kelly Hatcher of Geneseo, Illinois; stepbrother, Craig Hatcher of Calona, Illinois; stepdaughter, Kiera Linney; niece, Ashley Breaux and her fiancé, Cutter Brewer, of Katy; great-nephew, Grayson Breaux; nephews, Todd Barnes of Beaumont and Haden Ballard; and grandchildren, Landon Linney and Katie Linney, both of Woodville.

 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Jean Nunn; grandfather, Lloyd Rice; grandmother, Laverna Rice; and stepbrother, Kerry Hatcher.

 

A gathering of Mr. Barnes’ family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Celebration of his Life will follow from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Elks Lodge #311, 11431 Highway 90, Beaumont. A family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Reynolds, Todd Barnes, Brandon Eason, Randy Casteel, Joe Ortego, Tony Rose, Sr., Tony Dugue, Bill Parkhill, Chuck Rose, Sonny Bontrager, John Morotti.

 

The family asks that everyone bring their motorcycles, muscle cars, and hot rods to put on display in memory of Al.
