Peggy Ruth Jones Smith, 71, of Vidor, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, Vidor. She was born on September 24, 1944, in Kountze, to Evalena Laird and Herman Lamar Jones.

Survivors include her children, Donna Ledet and her husband, Clarence, of Vidor; Buddy Pender of Houston; Danny Pender and his wife, Sandra, of Saratoga; Darrell Payne and his wife, Tia, of Galesburg, Illinois; grandchildren, Betty Pender, Michael Pender, Chase Laird, Alfredo Ledet, Arieal Pender, James Pender, Josh Pender, Amanda Butler, Bryce Pender, Armando Ledet, Samantha Butler, Kimberlee Pender, Michaela Payne, Christian Payne, Emily Payne; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat Ledoux of Vidor; Julie Thompson of California; Evenlyn Havard of Kountze; and Ethel Jones of Vidor.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Thomas Smith; son, Michael Ray Pender; grandchildren, Trey Pender and Chelsea Rossi; brother, Lamar Jones; and sister, Clara Blankenship.

A gathering of Mrs. Smith's family and friend will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
