Sylvia Joan Laird
March 18, 1945 - June 5, 2016

Sylvia Joan Laird, 71, of Kountze, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Christus Hospital - St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on March 18, 1945, in Denning, to Gladys Cupit and Cyril Ralph Hooper. Mrs. Laird enjoyed garage sales and flea markets. She spent her Sundays cooking dinner for her family.

Her life revolved around her kids and grandkids. She loved to have everyone gather at her house, and she loved cooking for everyone. Whether it was a simple Sunday dinner or an elaborate Christmas spread, she was completely content once she knew everyone was full! And everyone knew on Sunday afternoon that if Sylvia was cooking, everyone was welcome! Her door was always open and there was always plenty of good food for each one.

She was an avid shopper, always out looking for a bargain! When she was able, she would shop for hours at the mall or get up at the crack of dawn to be one of the first one at the local garage sales. And after she was no longer able to get out of the house, she found another love - QVC, where she could once again hunt for bargains right from her couch.

Whether she was known as Mom, Nana, Aunt Sissy, Suey, or Sylvia, she was loved by so  many and will be greatly missed. Gone but never forgotten.

Survivors include her children, Melissa McMillan and her husband, David Fregia, of Lumberton; Jody Laird and his wife, Renee, of Kountze; six grandchildren; siblings, Maurice Fountain and his wife, Joyce, of Etoile; Lynda Hollis and her husband, Eddie, of Orange; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joel Laird.

A gathering of Mrs. Laird's family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
