John "Jack" Mistrot 
October 24, 1926 - May 21, 2016

John “Jack” Mistrot, 89, of Beaumont, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on October 24, 1926, in Long Beach, California, to Ruth Sallee Mistrot and Robert B. Mistrot, Sr., and had been a longtime resident of Beaumont.

Jack graduated from Beaumont High School and Lamar Junior College. He received his BBA from North Texas State and his MA from University of Houston. Jack spent summers improving his teaching skills at Texas A&M, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Birmingham Southern. Jack served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He taught at McArthur, Amelia, and Sallie Curtis. Jack especially enjoyed nature, science, and history. He later served as principal at Sallie Curtis, Caldwood, and Blanchette.

After retirement, he enjoyed traveling overseas and RVing in the United States. As “Mistrot the Magician”, Jack entertained all ages from the Rio Grande Valley to Maine. He was an Elder at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Beth Anne Mistrot;  sons, Robert Mistrot and his wife, Tracy, of Crystal Beach; and Dan Mistrot and his wife, Lynda, of Pace, Florida; grandchildren, John and his wife, Elsena; Jennifer and her husband, Justin; Scott Mistrot and Bridgett Mistrot; and five great-grandchildren.

A gathering of Mr. Mistrot’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1350 North 23rd Street, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
