Nancy Sue Pickard, 60, of Nederland, Texas, passed away on April 5, 2016 at Harbor Hospice surrounded by family after courageously battling with cancer for 8 months. She was born in Port Acres, Texas, to Enola and Lizay “Pop-Pop” Romero and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1973.

Nancy married her soulmate, Dr. Robert Pickard Jr., and they were happily married for 38 years. She worked with Robert at his dental office in Port Arthur as the office manager, assistant, and receptionist. Nancy and Robert have two children, Dr. Lance Pickard, 32, and Dr. Brenna Pickard, 29, who were her biggest joys in life. After retirement, bragging on her children became her new career. When Nancy wasn’t working or pulling pranks on everyone, she enjoyed working in her flower bed, making casino trips, traveling with her family, working at her church, St. Theresa Little Flower, and playing cards.  Nancy lived her life to the fullest and had a glowing personality that kept everyone around her smiling. 

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Pickard Jr.; son, Dr. Lance Pickard and partner, Robert Vercher; daughter and fiancé, Drs. Brenna Pickard and Christopher Dingess; mother, Enola Romero; father-in-law, Dr. Robert Pickard Sr.; sister, Diana Taylor, and husband Don; brother, David Romero, and wife Brenda; brother Randy Romero; brother-in-law’s, Dr. William Pickard, and wife Carmen; Mike Pickard, and wife Kelly; and Roger Dimick. Other survivors include multiple nieces and nephews, her church family, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lizay Romero, sister, Terry Dimick, brother, Jimmy Romero and wife Debbie, and mother-in-law, Marion Pickard.

There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Therese The Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Avenue, Port Arthur, on Friday, April 8, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception to celebrate her life and the memories she left. In lieu of flowers, Nancy’s wish is to have monetary donations submitted to her church.

Although taken away too soon, Nancy will never be forgotten and her memories are everlasting. She was born a Cajun, became a loving wife and proud mother, and has now gone home to be with our Lord as a guardian angel with sparkling wings. We love you and will miss you always.
