Edna "Ednita" Wilcox Lane 
March 11, 1924 - March 27, 2016

Edna “Ednita” Wilcox Lane, 92, of Beaumont, died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont. She was born the oldest of four children on March 11, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edna Forrest Wilcox and Charles E. Wilcox. Mrs. Lane was a twelve year survivor of breast cancer

In the late summer of 1945, while on a site-seeing trip with friends to Washington D.C. she met her husband to be, Army Sergeant David Charles Lane. They married in Beaumont on December 22, 1945. The couple ran a roofing business and raised American Kennel Club Registered Toy Manchester Terriers from their home in Beaumont. The couple also became members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where Mrs. Lane served as a member of the choir, was a first grade Sunday School Teacher, and eventually an Altar Guild member. The couple waited 15 years for the birth of their only child, Leila.

In 1967, Ednita became a part-time librarian at All Saints Episcopal School, eventually becoming the school’s bookkeeper until 1986. Mrs. Lane was also very active in the following clubs serving as president one or more times over the years – Women’s Club of Beaumont, Pilot Club, the ABWA, American Business Women’s Association, Parents Association of TAMU Beaumont, and the Golden Triangle Genealogical Society. Following the death of her husband in March of 1986, Mrs. Lane worked for the L.M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home as their bookkeeper. Mrs. Lane eventually went to work for the City of Beaumont at the Tyrell Historical Library until her retirement in 2012.

Mrs. Lane is survived by her daughter, Leila and her husband, Boyd L. Bradford, Jr.; and grandchildren, Boyd L. Bradford III and Brittany L. Bradford, all of La Palma, California.

Mrs. Lane’s graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. She will be buried next to her husband.
