Paul Edward Snyder 
June 22, 1932 - March 6, 2016

Paul Edward Snyder, 83, of Lumberton, died Sunday, March 6, 2016.  He was born on June 22, 1932, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to Viola Mae Brickner Snyder and John Glaize Snyder, Sr.  Mr. Snyder served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and retired as a banker.

 

Mr. Snyder attended Milton Hershey School for Boys from 1938 to 1950, where he played baseball and football. He also played football while in the Army. He was very active in the Presbyterian Church all of his life, serving as a teacher, leader, Deacon, and Elder. He married Joyce Calaman on October 10, 1952, and had three daughters. Mr. Snyder was Mayor of Groveton from May 1996 until May 2000 and the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Groveton for many years.  He served as Vice President of First Bank of Groveton from 1983 until 1995 and was a member of Lions Club of Beaumont, Tupelo, Mississippi, and Groveton.  He was also a member of the Burke Center in Lufkin for many years.

 

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Joyce Calaman Snyder; daughters, Sharon Ridley Landon of Lumberton; Karen Barrow Miller and partner, Bobbie, of Sour Lake; and Brenda Maxey Munns and her husband, Kevin, of Onalaska, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Jade Maxey Britton and her husband, Brandon of Lake City, Florida; Jeffrey Ridley and his wife, Heidi, of Bridge City; Raymond “Tray” Barrow, III and his wife, Christen, of Sulphur, Louisiana; Jami Ridley Reese of Lumberton; Michael Barrow and his wife, Ashley, of Lumberton; Amber Maxey Clements and her husband, Nick of West Salem Wisconsin; Trent Landon and his wife, Shelly, of San Francisco, California; and Matt and Adam Munns of Onalaska, Wisconsin; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Helen and Rodney Calaman, Catherine Calaman, Marcia Calaman, Larry Calaman, and Betty and Marlin Calaman, all of Pennsylvania; and Margaret Snyder of Daytona Beach, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John G. Snyder, Jr. and Robert D. Snyder; sister, H. Ruth Seely; sons-in-law, Van M. Ridley and Joe H. Landon; and brothers-in-law, Robert L. Calaman and Donald E. Calaman.

A gathering of Mr. Snyder’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
