Richard “Rich” DeFrates, 46, of Groves, died Saturday, February 20, 2016. He was born on May 9, 1969, in Burlington, Iowa, to Jacquilene Sue Bertrim and Orland Owen DeFrates, Jr. and had been a longtime resident of the area.

Rich enjoyed fishing and playing video games. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend.

Survivors include his wife of seventeen years, Hazel DeFrates; daughter, Seraphin Angelina DeFrates, both of Groves; brother, Troy DeFrates and his wife, Betsi, of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Michon DeFrates of Burlington, Iowa; father and step-mother, Orlando DeFrates and his wife, Alma, of Port Neches; mother, Jackie DeFrates of Burlington, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.

A private family committal for Mr. DeFrates will be held at a later date at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
