Beverly
Ann Meschke Linscomb, 81, of Lumberton, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016.
On
Thursday September 13, 1934, in the middle of the Great Depression, the most
loving parents Wilhelm Meschke and Emma Meschke, gave birth to what would be
their only child. They gave her the name Beverly Ann Meschke.
Born
in Austin, Texas, and baptized at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, her family moved
to Beaumont, Texas, when she was 7 years old when her dad went to work as a
welder in the ship yard, during World War II. Beverly went to elementary school
at Saint John Lutheran School in Beaumont and graduated from Beaumont High in
1952. She also attended Saint John Lutheran Church in Beaumont, where she was
confirmed at the age of 14. Beverly worked at a bank as a bookkeeper, and later
met and married Ray Linscomb in 1958, to whom she would share the next fifty-one
years of her life.
She
became a full time mom and house wife devoting all of her time to raising three
kids, Gloria, Martha, and Ray. Our parents raised us in a Christ centered home
as Mom made sure we were at church every Sunday. Mom read her Bible and
devotion every morning and was involved in church activities such as Ladies Aid
in her early years; she helped to start Early Bird Breakfast, and Sack Lunch
Bunch, and attended Twice Fed. Beverly also helped in starting the American
Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Lumberton, and also attended many functions of the
Broussard’s bereavement group.
Mom
and dad loved to dance and that is something they gave to all of us. To see
them glide across the dance floor was great to watch. When we would go to
Austin for a wedding or a family gathering you could bet that our family was
out on the dance floor most of the night. Later mom and dad picked up square
dancing with Uncle Everett and Aunt Elizabeth and they all had a great time.
Mom
is the reason that we all became great parents. Mom has three grandsons, two
granddaughters, three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Our mom
made sure that she was at all of her kids activities whether it was sports,
band or church. She also made time to be involved with the grandkids and her
great grandkids by attending as many of their activities as possible. Mom also loved to travel as she has been to
Europe, Hawaii, and just last year took a cruise with her daughter, Martha. To
go see her son Ray, she would rather drive and see the beautiful scenery than
fly.
Our
mom was Christ centered, and devoted to her church, family and friends. She was
the glue that kept our family together. Beverly stayed very active up to the
time of her diagnosis. Before going to see her son in Maryland, she hosted a
Bunko game at her house. She went on a hike with her son to get a great view of
the fall colors while visiting just this past fall and went to see her great-granddaughter
in a dance competition, both while she was not feeling well.
She
is survived by her daughter, Martha Scott, of Lumberton; son, Ray Linscomb and
his wife Michele, of New Windsor, Maryland; grandchildren, John Scott and his
wife, Shelby and Ann Scott, all of Lumberton; William and Sarah Linscomb, of
New Windsor, Maryland; and five great-grandchildren.
She
is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anthony Ray Linscomb; daughter,
Gloria Chaney, and grandson Dustin Chaney.
A
gathering of Mrs. Linscomb’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until
7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major
Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 18,
2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4330 Crow Road, Beaumont, with her interment
to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
Memorial
contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 4330 Crow Road,
Beaumont, Texas 77706.
