Clovis "Chief" Joseph Melancon 
October 7, 1930 - January 24, 2016

Clovis J. “Chief” Melancon, 85, of Hamshire, died Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was born October 7, 1930, in Rayne, Louisiana, to Lena Cradeur and Jack Melancon, and had been a resident of the Hamshire area for over sixty years.

“Chief” enjoyed fishing and working in the garden. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Melancon is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Lavergne Melancon, of Hamshire; daughters, Louise Belsey and her husband, Richard, of Hamshire; Helena Dow and her husband, Troy, of Winnie; Vicky Basye and her husband, Milton, of Pasadena; sons, Scott Melancon and his wife, Sue, of Winnie; Blaine Melancon and his wife, Tammy, of Winnie; and Lance Melancon and his wife, Maggie, of Sugarland; grandchildren, Brandon, Erin, Chris, Nick, Chace, Morgan, Max, Alex and Laura; great-grandson, Gage; brothers, Joe Melancon and his wife, Mae, of Hamshire; and Elmo Melancon and his wife Murmy, of Hamshire.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Charlie Howard; two sisters; nine brothers.  

A gathering of Mr. Melancon’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
