Mandy Rose Simon 
February 15, 1929 - January 18, 2016

Mandy Rose Simon, 86, of Winnie, died Monday, January 18, 2016, at Riceland Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 15, 1929, to Sarah Broussard and John Hargrave, in Lyons Point, Louisiana, and had been a longtime resident of the Winnie area. Mrs. Simon was retired from service with the Chambers County Tax office, as a tax clerk.

Mandy was active in various civic club groups, and a devout member of St. Louis Catholic Church. For many years, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, singing in the Choir and Chairman of the Liturgy Committee, under Father Pat Turner. Her joy was reciting, in Cajun French, the living and deceased rice farmers from our community, at the Annual Rice Harvest Mass. Most of all, Mandy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous heart, unselfish acts of love and as a gracious lady.

Survivors include son, Larry Simon and his wife, Rosemary, of Winnie; daughters, Melissa Hodges and her husband, Steve, of Winnie: and Sandra Frederick, of Winnie; grandchildren, John Michael Simon, of Winnie; Jason Simon and his wife, Michelle, of  Beaumont; Brookelyn Ellis and her husband, Brian, of The Woodlands; Kahla Rachal and her husband, Lee, of Houston; Rusty Frederick and his wife, Amanda, of Fannett; and Justin Frederick, of Winnie; great-grandchildren, HayLee Chanse Simon; Carlie Simon; Jonathan Simon; Madelyn Frederick; Olivia Frederick and Everett Rachal; sister, Cecilia Jones, of Fort Worth; and brother, August Hargrave, of Franklin, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Luma “Blackie” Simon; son, Glenn Simon; granddaughter, Haley Frederick; brothers, Vernice Hargrave and Wallace Hargrave; and sister, Marie Miller.


A gathering of Mrs. Simon’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2016, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, with internment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
