Bernard S. Renken, Sr. 
May 12, 1927 - January 17, 2016

Bernard S. "Slim" Renken, 88, of Tomball and formerly of Kountze, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Heritage Nursing Facility, Tomball.  He was born on May 12, 1927, in Wallis, to Kathryn Spoede Renken and Eddie Carl Renken.  Slim was a retired peace officer, last serving as a special agent with Southern Pacific Railroad.

 

Slim is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Renken of Tomball; sons, Bernard S. Renken, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Waller and Thomas E. Renken and his wife, Paula, of Garden Ridge; grandchildren, Melissa Crosby and her husband, Josh, of Magnolia; Bernard S. "Spoede" Renken, III of Waller; and Rhonda Pittman and her husband, Luther, of Boling; great-grandchildren, Mason Roebuck, Kamryn Crosby, Jackson Crosby, Laney Darling, Emily Renken, Nickolas Pittman, Roxanne Pittman, and Colton Pittman; and many loving family members.

 

He was known for his love of Little League baseball, birds and gardening, and his devotion to the love of his life, Betty. He will be remembered for his soft-hearted ways and witty humor. Those he has left behind rejoice in his healing and celebrate a great man, devoted husband, caring father, and “best Grandaddy ever”.

 

Join Mr. Renken's family and friends in remembrance from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Broussard's Mortuary, with his interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
