David Eugene “Roadrunner” Whitmire, 62, of Port Neches, died Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born on April 13, 1953, in Liberty, to Lucy Mae Dunlap Whitmire and Samuel Smith Whitmire, Sr.

David was a big fan of Willie Nelson and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed gardening and growing peppers. David loved the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He will be remembered as a man of courage and fierce independence.

Survivors include his brothers, Sam Whitmire of Rockport and John Whitmire and his wife, Brenda, of Midway; sisters, Nelda Faye Beard of North Carolina and Josalyn Broyles and her husband, Cliff, of Nederland; known to his several nieces and nephews as Uncle Dew and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Sam and Lucy Whitmire; and his faithful Chihuahua, Tiny.

A family committal for Mr. Whitmire will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, with a family memorial to follow.
