William “Mark” Monroe, Sr., 57, of Nederland, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015,
at Harbor Hospice of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on March 28, 1958,
to Nancy Parrish and Harold Straley Monroe, Sr., in Nederland. Mark was an avid
fisherman.
As a child, Mark earned
the nickname “Hoot” from his siblings, because he was always making them laugh.
Even as a child, he always wanted to help everyone. He went to school in
Nederland and graduated from Edison Adult Night School in Port Arthur in 1976. From
there, he went on to the Carpenters Local 610 from 1977 until 1985. Mark was a
safety man for over twenty years.
He was a proud father
of three and grandfather of three. Always the fisherman, he spent a lot of his
free time on Pleasure Island running the rocks and chasing the birds. Three
things he loved were his Harley, Jimmy Buffet, and most of all, his family. He
will truly be missed.
Survivors include his
children, William Monroe, Jr. and his fiancée, Jamie Crenshaw; Eric Monroe and
his wife, Christina; and Allison Monroe; grandchildren, Braiden Monroe, Madisen
Monroe, Brookelynn Crenshaw, and Olivia Monroe; mother, Nancy Sikes; sister,
Nancy Hatton; brothers, Hal Monroe, Freddie Monroe, Jimmy Hooker, and Ray
Beaugh; and numerous other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death
by his wife, Cynthia French Monroe; father, Harold Straley Monroe, Sr.; and
stepfather, Tilman Sikes.
A gathering of Mr.
Monroe’s family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday,
November 29, 2015 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His funeral
service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2015, at Broussard’s, with his
interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to Neches Federal Credit
