Ruth Barr Sandman Brookner, 95, of Beaumont, died Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont.  She was born on July 21, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edna Barr Sandman and Mervin F. Sandman, D.D.S.

Ruth lived in New York City and later graduated from NYU. Along the way she met and married Ralph whose family was from Beaumont.  They established their home in Beaumont and loved raising their children here. She lived everyday thankfully with a smile on her face.

Ruth is remembered with love by her sister, Jeanne Blum; sons, Mark Brookner and his wife, Barbara, of Bellaire and Steven Brookner and his wife, Barbara, of Beaumont; daughters, Miriam Thompson and her husband, Jim and Kathy Johnson and her husband, Don, all of Beaumont; grandchildren, Brad and Michelle Brookner, Jeffrey and Carrie Brookner, Michael Brookner, Chad Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Jenny and Thomas Palermo, and Nick Thompson; great-grandchildren, Lauren Brookner, Dennis Brookner, Hannah Brookner, Jessica Brookner, Ally Brookner, Adam Johnson, Clara Johnson, Lilly Palermo, and Trey Palermo.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ralph Jay Brookner.

During the last years of her life, Ruth received the best of care from a number of wonderful, dedicated caregivers that were so kind to her.  Those remaining with her at the end include Vickie Owens Joseph, Loretta Augustine, and Alma Reed.

A gathering of Mrs. Brookner’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.  Her interment will follow at Hebrew Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.
