Bonnie Jean Thompson Barnett 
June 30, 1937 - October 25, 2015

Bonnie Jean Thompson Barnett passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Summer Place Skilled Nursing Facility following a short illness surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was born June 30, 1937. She graduated from St. Anthony High School and later graduated from Lamar University, with three degrees and a Masters in Education. Bonnie became a teacher at Groves Middle School where she taught for thirty years. She enjoyed many years with her family at the beach and touched everyone she made contact with. Bonnie worked extensively with the Cathedral Ladies at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica.

We have always considered her our family matriarch and she will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her sons, Don Barnett, Jr. and wife, Missy, of Blanco, Texas; Steven Barnett of Crystal Beach; and Michael Barnett and his wife, Lisa, of Lumberton; daughters, Lynda Barnett and Doug Lack of Dallas; and Laura Lee and her husband, Bob, of St. Marteen, Lesser Antilles; brothers, Richard Thompson and his wife, Lana, of Lumberton; and Tom Thompson and his wife, Marthea, of Meadow Vista, California; sisters, Lynda Scherer and her husband, Bob, of Santa Ann, California; and Beverly Warmuth and her husband, John, of Houston; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandsons; her favorite uncle, Tom Leicht; and numerous other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don E. Barnett; and her parents Buford and Katherine Leicht Thompson.

The family wants to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mark Toups and his nurse Kathy, good friend and neighbor Mildred (Mickey) L. May and many healthcare professionals who assisted her care the last several weeks.

A gathering of Mrs. Barnett’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, October 30, 2015, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
