Velma Charlene Johnson, 78, of Nederland, died Thursday, October 15, 2015. She was born on February 22, 1937, in Arkoma, Oklahoma, to Clora Jane and Henry L. Johnson.

Velma was a mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Her children and family were her life.

Survivors include her son, Mitchel Bittle and his wife, Dianne Bradbury, of Houston; daughter, Charlotte Chatelain and her husband, Steve, of Nederland; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, L.D. Johnson and his wife, Martha, of Spiro, Oklahoma and Alva Gene Beckham and his wife, Peggy, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert “Rob” Louis Bittle, Jr.; and brother, Donald Johnson.

A private family committal for Ms. Johnson will be held at Broussard’s Mortuary, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
