George
Grayson Owen, a longtime resident of Beaumont, passed away Thursday, September
24, 2015, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.
He was born on December 28, 1935, in Fort Worth, to Orlena Sanger Owen
and Monte Owen. George grew up in Waco, where he attended Waco High School, and
later graduated with a degree in Geology from Lamar University. He was retired
from the Beaumont Independent School District as the Planetarium Director, and was
a long time real estate broker.
George
is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Wanda Joyce Pool Owen;
daughter, Tanya Owen Miller and her husband, Scott, and their daughters, Hannah
and Molly, all of Dallas; sister-in-law, Karla Battle and her husband, Doug, of
Beaumont; and their daughters, Amber Sealy of Austin and
Laurel Battle of Dallas.
He
is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bob Owen.
The
family would like to express their thanks for the help and support of his good
friends and neighbors, especially Pat and Ray Knox, Beverly Stewart, David Mayes,
Juan Cepeda, Francisco Castenada and family, Bette, Shirley and PJ, Paul, his
friends at Thirsty’s, his friends at Black Eyed Pea, and Sonya and Mandy.
A
gathering of George’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00
p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive,
Beaumont. His graveside service will be
at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2015, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955
Pine Street, Beaumont.
