Helen Louise Kuhn
March 22, 1923 - August 9, 2015

Helen Louise Kuhn, 92, of Beaumont, died Sunday, August 09, 2015, at Summer Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont. She was born on March 22, 1923, to Vaneta Prather Blasingame and Earl Dawson Blasingame, in Los Angeles, California.

She will be remembered for her tireless effort in service for the elderly. In partnership with Southeast Texas Baptist Hospital, she operated a beauty cart for patients. From here, she began her volunteer service with The Mental Health Association, where she initiated a telephone assurance program, for volunteers phoning a list of seniors on a daily basis to insure their safety. The list grew to some two hundred forty seniors. This led to her formation of Beaumont Association for Senior Citizens with a mission to establish a day care center for seniors with the first location in the basement of the YMCA downtown. She could not stop now, so her next hurdle would be a one hundred room apartment complex with twenty percent to be totally equipped for the handicapped seniors over the age of sixty-two, resulting in the establishment of the 4 million dollar Baten Arms. After a four year management of this successful effort, she along with contractor, James Gonzales, converted the old Ridgewood Motel into a retirement center for seniors. Along the way she was awarded the Women’s Athena Trophy and a Texas Congressional Proclamation Day for Helen Kuhn.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Donald Clarke Kuhn; daughters, Patricia McPhail of Dallas; Disa Albanese and her husband, Joey, of Sour Lake; and Traci Walcutt and her husband, Ron, of Houston; grandchildren, Cord McPhail and his wife, Laura, of New Orleans; Cody McPhail of Dallas; Jared Albanese and his wife, Kristin, of Lumberton; Dustin Albanese and his wife, Laci, of Beaumont; Seth Albanese of Beaumont; Amber Dailey and her husband, Justin, of Lumberton; and Jessica Lowe; Colton Lowe; and Alie Lowe, all of Evadale; and great-grandchildren, Averie, Nevaeh, Emily, and Anna Beth Albanese, William McPhail, and Cadence and Madison Dailey.

She is preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Lesley Poore Marquez.
