Gertrude Kunefke Mahon, 92, of Winnie, went to live with Jesus, her precious Savior, on Sunday, August 2, 2015.  She was born to Emily and Luke Kunefke on October 4, 1922, and lived in Winnie all her life.

She was a loving mother and homemaker.  She loved her Lord greatly, her church, which she was a member of some seventy-four plus years and taught children Sunday School some fifty plus years.  She loved her pastor, prayer, friends, and her bible, which she read through twenty-three times and much more just plain bible reading.

She loved her family and is survived by her sons, Ray Mahon and his wife, Susan; Tommy Mahon; Jimmy Mahon and his wife, Debbie; and Jesse “Pete” Mahon and his wife, Debbie, all of this area; daughter, Lola Stelly of Louisiana; twelve-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Melvin Kunefke and his wife, Caroline, of Missouri and Raymond Kunefke of Winnie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emily and Luke Kunefke; her loving husband of sixty-two and a half years, Jess Willard Mahon; brother, Chester Kunefke and his wife, Tootsie; sister, Leona Stengler and her husband, Larry; brother, Herbert Kunefke and his wife, Donna Kay; sister-in –law, Faye Kunefke; and son-in-law, John Stelly.

A gathering of Mrs. Mahon’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie.  Her funeral service will be 5:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Winnie, 120 East Pear Street, Winnie, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
