Lucille Silcox 
February 9, 1919 - July 8, 2015

Lucille Silcox, 96, of Kountze, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont.  She was born on February 9, 1919, in Russellville, Arkansas, to Della McKnight Leslie and Carl Leslie.

 

Lucille was a Hamshire resident for twenty-two years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamshire where she taught the ladies adult class.  She lost her husband of thirty-two years and moved to Kountze where she became a member of First Baptist Church of Kountze.  There she taught her first 7th and 8th grade girls.  She was a fifty-year old widower and they made her feel young and needed.  They were her lifeline and she loved them dearly.  She continued teaching a Sunday school class, but she went back teaching the adult ladies class until age 80.  She loved her church and church family.  She also worked at the Western Auto Store until retiring at age 75.  Volunteer work followed at the Kountze Library, Christian Loving Care Center, Keenagers, and S.C.A.T.

 

Survivors include her children, Wanda Stratton of Kountze; Linda Stratton and her husband, James and Buddy Silcox and his wife, Julia, all of Winnie; and Reba Bunt of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Joy Turner and her husband, Otho, of Hankamer; Deb Haring and her husband, Mike, of Katy; Jan Bergeron and her husband, Ray; Jeff Silcox; Corky Silcox; Michelle Silcox; and Rusty Silcox, all of Winnie; Troy Stratton and his wife, Michele, of Liberty Hill; Tish Adkins and her husband, Toby, of Lumberton; and Chad Stratton and his wife, Amanda, of Spring; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lil Sheppard of Buna; and brother, Paul Perry and his wife, Dorothy, of Greenville.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynn Silcox; brothers, Shelby Leslie and Eugene Leslie; sisters, Ruby Williams and Marie Cooper; and sons-in law, Louis Stratton and Jim Bunt.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Silcox’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2015, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Kountze, 100 Monroe, Kountze, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
